Xbox zal enkele exclusieve hits op andere platforms uitbrengen

Sony heeft na het enorme succes van Helldivers 2 de deur geopend voor een agressiever releasebeleid op PC voor haar PlayStation-exclusieve titels. Nu wil Microsoft ook de spelersbasis van een aantal van zijn grootste exclusieve releases uitbreiden. Het is de moeite waard om op te merken dat er al veel games zijn die exclusief via Windows beschikbaar zijn op Xbox en PC. De lijst met titels die speelbaar zijn op beide platforms via Xbox Anywhere is blijven groeien sinds de aankondiging van de service. Het uitbrengen van deze games voor andere consoles, namelijk PlayStation en Nintendo Switch, leek echter uitgesloten. Dat is nu niet meer het geval.

Winds of change

De dagen van exclusieve releases voor specifieke platforms komen misschien dichterbij. Microsoft heeft bevestigd dat het verschillende grote hits zal uitbrengen op andere platforms in een officiële verklaring die de aankomende release van Grounded, Pentiment, Hi-Fi RUSH en Sea of Thieves op PlayStation en Nintendo Switch consoles bevestigt. Als bonus zullen Grounded en Sea of Thieves cross-play bieden op alle ondersteunde platforms.

• Pentiment from Obsidian Entertainment, a truly unique, critically acclaimed, and award-winning narrative adventure game with a striking visual style inspired by history itself will be coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch on February 22.   
• Hi-Fi RUSH, the award-winning and beloved rhythm-based action game where the world syncs to the music from Tango Gameworks/Bethesda Softworks will be coming to PlayStation 5 on March 19 at midnight UTC, with pre-purchase available on PlayStation 5 digital storefronts on February 22.  
• Grounded – also from Obsidian Entertainment – a co-op survival adventure phenomenon that has welcomed 20 million players into the backyard, will be coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch on April 16. Cross-play will be supported across Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC.   
• Sea of Thieves, the shared world adventure game from Rare, will be coming to PlayStation 5 on April 30 – and will be available to wishlist by PlayStation 5 players starting tomorrow, February 22. Having built a passionate community of more than 35 million players from around the world, the support of cross-play for Xbox, PlayStation and PC will allow players to experience epic pirate adventures with friends on more platforms.

Deze koerswijziging in het officiële beleid zal de respectieve gemeenschappen enorm ten goede komen en is al erkend en ondersteund door elk van de ontwikkelaars, waaronder Rare Ltd. die zelfs een officiële video heeft uitgebracht om deze kwestie aan te kaarten.

Pentiment, Hi-Fi RUSH, Grounded en Sea of Thieves zullen zeer binnenkort te spelen zijn op PlayStation consoles en Nintendo Switch.
