Old World is een turn-based 4X-strategiegame ontwikkeld door Mohawk Games. Het spel speelt zich af in een fictieve wereld geïnspireerd door het klassieke tijdperk van de geschiedenis, waar spelers in de huid kruipen van een koninklijke dynastie en hun volk naar glorie leiden.

In Old World moeten spelers de economie, diplomatie en het leger van hun koninkrijk beheren om hun grondgebied en invloed uit te breiden. Het spel heeft een uniek mechanicasysteem waarmee spelers beslissingen kunnen nemen op basis van de eigenschappen, relaties en persoonlijke ervaringen van hun personage.

De gevechtsmechanismen in het spel zijn ook uniek, want gevechten worden niet alleen gewonnen door brute kracht, maar ook door strategische positionering en slimme tactieken. Spelers moeten de bewegingen en aanvallen van hun eenheden beheren en tegelijkertijd voordeel halen uit het terrein en de omgevingsfactoren.

Old World heeft ook een complex systeem van relaties en huwelijken, waarbij spelers diplomatie en de eigenschappen van hun personage moeten gebruiken om allianties te vormen en politieke macht veilig te stellen. Het verhaal van het spel wordt gevormd door de beslissingen en acties van de speler, waardoor een unieke en meeslepende ervaring ontstaat.

Een van de nieuwigheden in Old World is dat het systeem voor technologische vooruitgang niet van tevoren vastligt. Bij elke playthrough volg je andere paden, wat veel mogelijkheden biedt en de gameplay diverser maakt. Het spel bevat ook verschillende multiplayerspeltypen waarin je je vaardigheden kunt testen tegen andere spelers.

Old World is een originele kijk op het 4X-genre dat een breed scala aan RPG-mechanieken introduceert om een spannende ervaring te bieden aan elke fan van het genre.
